Michele and Glenn Webster first came to the SBDC in April of 2013. Michele was working at a local law firm and Glenn worked for a local distribution company; it was Michele’s dream to own a Bead store with Glenn’s support.
Steve Surguy, McLennan SBDC Director, worked with Michele and Glenn to develop a business plan and to evaluate viability of the proposed location. After looking at all loan options, they decided to fund the opening themselves. Their bead boutique successfully opened in October 2013.
Since that time, business continues to grow at a steady pace and they have just completed an expansion of the shop to a new, larger location. Glenn teaches jewelry making classes along with Michele, who manages the store along with their daughters. They will also be adding dicroic glass and gemstone shaping to their courses in the new location. Michelle had the following to say about dealing with the SBDC:
After a few years of creating jewelry and having a reasonable response through sales, we decided to turn this hobby into a full time endeavor. We contacted the McLennan Small Business Development Center and worked with Steve Surguy for about a year before opening the doors of Just Because Bead Boutique. Under SBDC tutelage, we gained the skills and guidance necessary to become a successful small business. After recently celebrating our 1-year anniversary in business, we are happy to report that the SBDC continues to provide support and assistance that significantly improves our small business' chance of success.
Surguy continues to work with Michele and Glenn and looks forward to helping them grow. You can learn more about their shop at http://www.justbecausebeadboutique.com/.
