Albert Hernandez first approached the SBDC with the idea for a Mental Health Counseling service in March of 2013. He is a service disabled veteran and felt there was a need to serve the military in Killeen with this service.
Albert had just left his job as a civilian contractor at Ft. Hood and needed $40k in start-up capital for his new venture. Albert has a MBA in logistics and his wife worked as an office administrator in medical clinics and in banking. Albert’s wife attended the SBDC seminar in Copperas Cove and referred her husband to the SBDC.
Steve Surguy, McLennan SBDC Director, worked with Albert on an ongoing basis resulting in the successful funding of the business start on June 14, 2013. He continued to work with Albert and in October, Arete’ opened its second office in San Antonio. Albert had the following to say about the SBDC:
“Arete’ is the Greek word which literally means “Reaching Your Highest Human Potential”. The SBDC worked with us step-by-step with real examples of business models and developed one specific for our company “Arete’ Mental Health Counseling.” By following our business and financial plan, we are well on our way toward reaching our Potential. Thank you, SBDC.”
Surguy continues to work with Arete’ and looks forward to helping them grow. You can learn more about their service at http://aretementalhealthcounseling.com/.
