At the time of arrival to the MCC-SBDC Ms. Kaye Johnson was in the pre-venture stage of developing her restaurant concept.  She sought assistance from the SBDC to learn how to organize, start and operate her casual fine dining restaurant concept.  Ms. Johnson currently practices corporate law, serving the greater Waco market.  Based on her personal observations and encouragement from many of her well heeled friends, client set her sights on opening a casual fine dining restaurant in Clifton, Texas against market opportunity.  Following her initial consultation with counselor Michael Green, client formed her business as an LLC.  Ms. Johnson’s reason for seeking assistance of the MCC-SBDC was to gather information and direction in all aspects of starting a restaurant.  Assistance rendered to Ms. Johnson by counselor Green included face to face consultations.  Over an eight month period, client scheduled and attended/participated in counseling sessions conducted by M. Green.  Specific assistance rendered to Ms. Johnson by counselor Green included: feasibility study, demographic research, market analysis, financial projections, development of a business plan, development of marketing strategies and guidance regarding business loan award.  Green also introduced client to the many elements of operating a full service restaurant including management, marketing and budgeting.

The effect of counseling assistance on the business is substantial. As a direct result of face to face counseling with the SBDC, Ms. Johnson has now gained an understanding of how to operate a successful restaurant, manage financial goals and objectives, implement operational procedures, manage employees and calculate operational ratios.
